Network Self-Evaluation
This self-evaluation is intended to get you thinking about the inherant risks contained in your own network. If you're guessing at the answers to these questions, you need to address them with your IT team. If you don't have an IT
team, please contact us.
Imagine what might happen if your data was placed into the wrong hands; your competition, a disgruntled employee.
- Do you have a firewall?
- Hackers can infect your computers with serious viruses and malware, cripling your operation.
- Staff can consume precious network bandwidth with unauthorized applications (like online music).
- Are all computers protected with Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Anti-SPAM? Are they updated on a regular basis?
- These systems must be updated and monitored regularly to prevent devistating effects.
- Do you have a Backup System for critical data?
- A non-tested backup system is as bad as no backup system at all.
- Cloud backups can be accessed by your staff at home. When they leave, so does your data.
- Do you know (for sure) where all your critical data is located?
- Backup tapes are typically not encrypted and can be easily stolen and restored to an un-authorized location.
- Your staff may be keeping critical data on cloud servers under personal accounts (when they leave, so does your data).
- Do you have an Internet Use policy in place to protect your systems?
- Staff can consume precious network bandwidth with unauthorized applications (like online music).
- Is critical data sent via email to staff on their mobile devices (phones/tablets/laptops)?
- If these devices are lost or stolen anyone view your data.
With all the attention being given to network hacks (Home Depot, eBay, etc.) now is the time to address issues with your own network. Please contact your IT team to discuss these issues. If you would like to discuss them with us, please call us immediately.
